The Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking the removal of Arvind Kejriwal as Delhi Chief Minister over his arrest in an excise policy case, stating it’s a matter of propriety, not legality. However, the court granted interim bail to Kejriwal until June 1 for campaigning in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, pending the validity of his arrest. Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta ordered Kejriwal to surrender on June 2 and prohibited him from visiting the CM’s office and Delhi secretariat as bail conditions. The court emphasized that interim bail is a common practice, exercised based on individual case circumstances.
