The first phase of Lok Sabha elections is happening with over 1,600 candidates, including eight Union ministers, contesting across 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and union territories. In addition, 92 Assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are up for grabs. Over 18 lakh polling personnel are deployed across 1.87 lakh polling stations for more than 16.63 crore voters, including 35.67 lakh first-time voters and 3.51 crore young voters aged 20-29 years. Measures like webcasting, micro observers, and 361 general, police, and expenditure observers aim to ensure fair elections.
