As India approaches the 17th Lok Sabha elections, the narrowing gender gap in voter participation marks a significant stride towards equitable development. In 2019, out of 42 crore voters, 19 crore were women, a trend that continued in 2024 with an expected 68 crore voters, including 33 crore females. By 2029, projections suggest a turnout of 73 crore voters, with women outnumbering men at 37 crore. By 2047, an estimated 115 crore registered electors are anticipated, with women comprising 55% of the turnout, signaling a transformative shift in India’s electoral landscape towards greater gender parity and socio-economic empowerment.
